Fans of NCIS: Origins are in for an exciting treat as the show teases more screen time for Mike Franks, with some intriguing developments coming in the second half of the season. The series is currently on a break until January, leaving viewers eagerly awaiting the next chapter of the prequel.
Executive producer and co-showrunner David J. North recently teased big things ahead for the beloved character. βWe’re moving on to other characters,β North shared. βIn the second half of the season, weβre about to learn a whole lot more about how Mike Franks became Mike Franks.β Kyle Schmid portrays the younger Franks in the spinoff, while Muse Watson plays the older Franks in the main NCIS series.
Franks, known for mentoring many NCIS agents, including Leroy Jethro Gibbs, has had his backstory largely unexplored until now. North promised that upcoming episodes would be a revelation. βWeβre really excited about it because the audience isnβt going to believe where we take this. As much as we think we know about Franks, we stay true to that, but weβre really coloring in how Franks became Franks,β he told Cinema Blend.
Fans are speculating that the show will dive deeper into Franks’ history, particularly his time with the Naval Investigative Service (NIS) after his service in the United States Marine Corps. Additionally, North hinted that more details about Franks’ romantic life would be revealed.
In NCIS: Origins, set in 1991, Mike is shown to have a complex relationship with Tish Kwa’la, portrayed by Tonantzin Carmelo. The episode “One Flew Over” revealed that Tish had previously been sexually assaulted in a car park, and Mike became determined to find the assailant. However, Tish’s emotional plea for him to stop led him to reconsider.
North teased that upcoming episodes would explore further challenges that could affect Mikeβs commitment to his vow to Tish. “This season coming up, weβre going to delve much further into their relationship, and Franks is going to deal with some things personally that really affect him,” he revealed. βWhen she asked him to give up looking for the man that assaulted her, thatβs not an easy thing for Franks to do, and maybe something he just canβt do.β
With NCIS: Origins set to return on January 27, fans donβt have to wait long to see how these dramatic storylines unfold.
