Tom Selleckโ€™s Powerful Lesson to Abigail Hawk in โ€˜Blue Bloodsโ€™ Will Move You!

Itโ€™s been two weeks since Blue Bloods came to an emotional end after 14 years on air. Despite being a beloved hit with both fans and critics since its debut in 2010, CBS made the decision to cancel the show, even in the face of protests from its stars.

Abigail Hawk, 42, who portrayed Detective 1st Grade Abigail Baker in over 250 episodes, recently opened up in an interview about the invaluable lessons she learned during her time on the show. One of her greatest sources of wisdom came from her co-star, Tom Selleck, who played NYPD Police Commissioner Frank Reagan.

Hawk Learns From Selleck

โ€œMy favorite acting advice he gave me was to always have a secret,โ€ Hawk shared with Closer Weekly. โ€œI really love that because you can apply it universally. It makes your character interesting โ€” and you donโ€™t have to tell anybody the secret. The camera misses absolutely nothing, but when you have a secret, there is a little sparkle behind your eyes.โ€

Over the years, Hawk grew close to Selleck, learning not just about acting but about life.

โ€œHe is inherently shy, very humble, and so authentic as both a person and an actor. He made us all better,โ€ Hawk said of Selleck. โ€œSome of my favorite conversations with him were when he talked about an issueโ€”whether a social or political topic. He always took the most left-wing news source, then a right-wing one, read them both, researched the entire spectrum, and then made his decision based on all of that information.โ€

Hawk praised Selleck for his well-rounded approach, noting that his opinions come from years of travel and experiences. โ€œYes, of course, he has his opinions, but they come from being very well-traveled and having seen a lot of stuff in his 79 years.โ€

Hawk Devastated By Blue Bloods Cancellation

Like Selleck and the rest of the Blue Bloods cast, Hawk has been deeply affected by the showโ€™s cancellation. The end of this era marks a significant loss for the entire team, but Hawkโ€™s memories of her time on the show, and the lessons learned from Selleck, will continue to inspire her.
