Joe Hillโ€™s Shocking Blue Bloods Exit Ruined His Spinoff Chances!

Blue Bloods effectively shut down any chance for a Joe Hill (Will Hochman) spinoff when it concluded his storyline. Introduced at the end of season 10, Joe was revealed as the late Joe Reaganโ€™s son after Sean (Andrew Terraciano) uncovered his existence through a school genealogy project. Joeโ€™s mother had kept his parentage a secret until he became an adult and started asking questions.

Joeโ€™s relationship with the Reagan family was rocky throughout his five-year run. Danny and Jamie struggled to accept him as he was a living reminder of their brotherโ€™s death, while his dynamic with Frank was strained due to Frankโ€™s strict boundaries between his roles as a family patriarch and police commissioner. However, the Blue Bloods series finale saw Joe finally embraced by the Reagans, and he expressed hope for Jamie and Eddieโ€™s baby, calling the child lucky to be part of the family.

With the showโ€™s cancellation for financial reasons, a potential spinoff would have needed a smaller cast. Joe was an ideal candidate to lead such a seriesโ€”connected enough to the Reagans to maintain continuity, yet independent enough to carry a show without needing the entire family present. However, the resolution of his story ultimately closed the door on this possibility.
