Tom Selleck’s Bold Plan to Save ‘Blue Bloods’ After Cancellation!

Tom Selleck’s Next Move: A New Jesse Stone Movie in the Works

As Blue Bloods prepares to conclude in the coming months, leading man Tom Selleck is already setting his sights on his next project—returning to one of his most beloved roles. The actor is planning a new installment in the Jesse Stone franchise, nearly two decades after first bringing the iconic character to life on screen.

The Jesse Stone made-for-TV films, which debuted with Jesse Stone: Stone Cold in 2005, have become a fan-favorite series. These crime dramas, based on Robert B. Parker’s detective novels, follow the titular character as he navigates complex cases and personal struggles. Selleck played Jesse Stone long before he took on his Blue Bloods role and has remained passionate about revisiting the character.

In a recent interview with TV Insider, Selleck shared his enthusiasm for another Jesse Stone film, revealing that he might even have to write the script himself. “It wouldn’t be a final one because everybody loves it,” he explained. “Jesse is a great character, and it would be fascinating to find out where he is quite a few years later.” However, with Blue Bloods still wrapping up, the actor admitted he needs time to regroup. “I don’t know what’s next,” he added, “but assuming the phone doesn’t stop ringing, I’m going to keep working.”

The fourteenth and final season of Blue Bloods was confirmed in late 2023, with the first ten episodes airing earlier this year. The remaining eight episodes will premiere on October 18, 2024, leading up to the series finale in December.

Selleck’s history with Jesse Stone is extensive, spanning nine films from 2005 to 2015. While CBS aired the first eight, the ninth installment, Jesse Stone: Lost in Paradise, premiered on Hallmark Channel in 2015. In addition to starring in the franchise, Selleck co-wrote many of the films, including Jesse Stone: No Remorse, Jesse Stone: Innocents Lost, Jesse Stone: Benefit of the Doubt, and Jesse Stone: Lost in Paradise. His work on Jesse Stone: Sea Change (2007) even earned him an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Miniseries or Movie.

With Blue Bloods coming to an end, Selleck’s fans are eager to see him bring Jesse Stone back to the screen. His passion for the character, combined with his writing and acting experience, suggests that this next chapter could be just as compelling as his previous work. While no official production details have been announced, one thing is clear—Tom Selleck isn’t ready to slow down just yet.
