The Blue Bloods universe is officially expanding with a new spinoff centered on Donnie Wahlbergβs Danny Reagan. CBS has given a straight-to-series order for Boston Blue (working title), created by S.W.A.T. writers Brandon Sonnier and Brandon Margolis. This time, Danny is leaving the NYPD for a new role at Boston PD, where heβll be partnered with Detective Lena Peters, the eldest daughter of a prominent law enforcement family.
Following Blue Bloodsβ cancellation after 14 seasons, the cast was vocal about continuing the franchise. However, Wahlberg admitted he was unsure how the story would continue without the Reagan family dynamic. βItβs going to be a very delicate dance to keep that integrity,β he told Variety, questioning how Danny would stay connected to his family in New York.
Boston Blue is produced by CBS Studios and Jerry Bruckheimer Television, with Sonnier and Margolis as showrunners. Wahlberg, Jerry Bruckheimer, and KristieAnne Reed will also serve as executive producers.
