Oscar-Winning Actor Gene Hackman & Wife Found Dead in Their Home
On Wednesday afternoon, two-time Oscar winner Gene Hackman and his wife, Betsy Arakawa, were found dead in their Santa Fe home. Santa Fe County Sheriff Adan Mendoza confirmed there were no signs of foul play, though the cause and time of death remain undisclosed. Their dog was also found deceased.
Hackman, who turned 95 in January, was a Hollywood legend, starring in over 70 films across four decades. He won Oscars for The French Connection and Unforgiven before quietly retiring in the late 2000s. In a 2009 interview, he cited health concerns as the reason for stepping away from acting.
In retirement, Hackman pursued writing, painting, and fishing, calling writing a βsoothingβ and manageable passion. He is survived by his three children from his first marriage to Faye Maltese.
Our deepest condolences go out to the family of Gene Hackman and Betsy Arakawa.
