Sonequa Martin-Green Joins Donnie Wahlberg in โBoston Blue,โ the Blue Bloods Spinoff Coming This Fall
Star Trek: Discovery star Sonequa Martin-Green is teaming up with Donnie Wahlberg for Boston Blue, CBSโs upcoming spinoff of its hit crime drama Blue Bloods. Set to premiere this fall, the series will follow Detective Danny Reagan (Wahlberg) as he relocates from New York to Boston, stepping away from his iconic family to take on a new role with the Boston Police Department.
Martin-Green plays Detective Lena Silver, Dannyโs new partner and the eldest daughter of a powerful law enforcement family. โWe love the Reagans, and now youโre going to love the Silvers too,โ Martin-Green said at a CBS press event, adding that sheโs excited to step into the world of Blue Bloods and may even try out a Boston accent from time to time.
Wahlberg, who spent over a decade on Blue Bloods, called the spinoff an opportunity to โmove the tradition forwardโ while expanding the universe. โWeโre working in a way that longtime viewers will love, and weโre inviting in a whole new audience too.โ
Fans can also expect familiar faces from the original series to appear. โThereโll be connective tissue to the old family,โ Wahlberg teased. โBut weโre also discovering a new one and continuing to tell both of their stories.โ
While Blue Bloods officially ended its run, many in the original castโincluding Tom Selleckโexpressed interest in continuing. โEverybody wanted to come back,โ Selleck said recently. โIt wouldโve been a gift for the audience.โ Though no official return has been confirmed, donโt be surprised if Frank Reagan makes a surprise appearance in Boston Blue.
