Donnie Wahlberg Says ‘Boston Blue’ Will Blow Minds With Beloved Comebacks!

Donnie Wahlberg is building big buzz for the premiere of Boston Blue — and he’s getting a little sentimental about it.

In a recent interview, the actor revealed that one heartfelt moment during filming will strike a chord with longtime Blue Bloods fans.

“The best part was when everyone in the scene put a Red Sox jersey on Danny at the end… it was sweet and fun, even if it pained me,” Wahlberg joked, admitting that the moment’s emotional payoff made it worth it.

The Blue Bloods spin-off follows Danny Reagan as he trades the NYPD for the Boston Police Department, partnering with Lena Silver (Sonequa Martin-Green) while adjusting to a whole new city. Wahlberg reassured fans of the original series they won’t be left behind: “The family, Tom Selleck, the cast… they’re my friends. Of course I’ll stay connected with the old characters, and they’ll pop up now and then.”

He also teased a gripping start: “The first episode will blow people’s minds. There are twists, turns, and moments that honor Blue Bloods while letting Danny explore a new world.”

Familiar Faces in ‘Boston Blue’
Wahlberg has hinted at surprise visits from Blue Bloods favorites. When a fan suggested Detective Maria Baez (Marisa Ramirez) should appear, he responded, “good idea.”

Confirmed appearances include Danny’s sister, Erin Reagan-Boyle (Bridget Moynahan), who will also step behind the camera to direct an episode. Wahlberg has even invited Will Hochman’s Joe Hill to “visit his uncle” on set — keeping the Reagan family bond alive in Boston.
