Donnie Wahlberg’s Danny Reagan Makes Big Move in ‘Boston Blue’!

Donnie Wahlberg Brings Danny Reagan Home in CBS’ New Drama Boston Blue

After 14 seasons on Blue Bloods, Donnie Wahlberg’s Detective Danny Reagan is trading New York City for Boston in CBS’ new drama Boston Blue. In the spinoff, Danny partners with Detective Lena Silver, played by Sonequa Martin-Green, and brings his signature dedication to law enforcement to a brand-new city and family.

The Silvers are a unique law enforcement family of their own, with members including a Police Superintendent, the Boston DA, a rookie cop, and a Baptist minister. They represent a diverse mix of backgrounds — some Jewish, some Black, some White — giving Danny a fresh perspective on crime-fighting families.

Danny’s move to Boston comes after his son Sean (Mika Amonsen) is injured on the job. As a rookie cop following in his father’s footsteps, Sean’s presence creates a new father-son dynamic that Blue Bloods never explored, giving viewers a deeper look into Danny’s life and relationships.

Wahlberg shared with the media that he’s proud to bring “faith, family, and tradition” back to TV.

“After 14 years on Blue Bloods, I’ve met countless law enforcement families who said the show meant a lot to them,” Wahlberg said. “Telling the story of a new law enforcement family is a tremendous honor, and I hope it resonates just like Blue Bloods did.”

A Boston native, Wahlberg feels at home in the city, though parts of the show are filmed in Toronto. He also reflected on his time in NYC, noting that acting in the streets of New York had become a daily joy on Blue Bloods.

Beyond the city, Danny is adjusting to a whole new workplace and a new family. Wahlberg described the process:

“It’s been a challenge, but it’s been fun. This is a new world for Danny, a new dinner table, a new family he’s being welcomed into. I’ve just allowed that to permeate through when I walk on set and let it unfold naturally.”

Family traditions also shift in Boston. Whereas the Reagans gather for Sunday dinner, the Silvers celebrate Shabbat on Friday nights. Danny is embracing the change, especially as he reconnects with his son Sean.

“Sean’s discovering what it means to be a Reagan while Danny learns what it’s like to have his son on the job — something that never happened in the family before,” Wahlberg said.

The series also gives Danny and Sean the opportunity to grow together on the streets, navigating challenges while building a closer father-son bond.

“This is our first chance to tell a father-son story,” Wahlberg explained. “Now Danny and Sean are out there together, learning the city and learning each other, surrounded by rich, amazing characters who become their new family.”

Boston Blue premieres October 17, 2025, on CBS, with episodes available the next day on Paramount+.
