Tom Selleck Rings in 80th Birthday with Family After Solo McDonald’s Stop
Tom Selleck marked his milestone 80th birthday with a mix of casual and elegant celebrations. The Magnum P.I. and Blue Bloods star was spotted on Tuesday making a solo McDonald’s run at a drive-thru in Thousand Oaks, California.
The following evening, Selleck stepped out for a more formal birthday dinner with his wife, Jillie Mack, and their daughter, Hannah, at the upscale Italian restaurant Tuscany il Ristorante. The couple, who have been married since 1987, were seen holding hands as they strolled down the street after their celebration, with Selleck carrying a cigar box and Jillie clutching a gift bag.
For the outing, Selleck kept it stylish in a dark red button-down shirt layered under a light brown blazer and tan jacket, paired with blue jeans and olive-green sneakers. Jillie complemented him in a black and beige striped maxi dress, a light brown leather jacket, a black crossbody bag, and black ankle boots.
Looking Toward the Future
Despite turning 80, Selleck remains focused on his career. In a December interview with Parade, he admitted heβs never been one to make a big deal out of birthdays.
βIβm trying not to count,β he said. βI stopped celebrating birthdays a while back. I intend to keep working. Iβll probably have dinner with maybe my brother and my sister and Jillie, just go out to dinner, kind of be quiet and not make a big deal of it.β
Now that Blue Bloods has wrapped up after 14 seasons, Selleck is contemplating his next move. Though he acknowledged that offers arenβt βpouring in,β he remains optimistic, noting, βSome people are thinking of me.β
A Return to Westerns?
One of Selleckβs hopes is to return to the Western genre, where heβs previously made a name for himself in films like The Sacketts, Quigley Down Under, and Crossfire Trail.
βA good Westernβs always on my list,β he shared. βI miss that; I want to sit on a horse again.β
He even expressed interest in working with Yellowstone creator Taylor Sheridan, hinting at a potential comeback in a high-profile Western project.
The Future of Blue Bloods and Jesse Stone
With Blue Bloods ending, fans have speculated about a possible spin-off featuring his character, Frank Reagan. Selleck addressed the possibility, saying, βIβm open to suggestions because I love Frank Reagan, but nobodyβs really asked.β
βI donβt see him retiring and going off somewhere,β he added. βIf he goes off to a small town, Iβd rather do more Jesse Stone movies.β
Selleck played police chief Jesse Stone in nine TV movies from 2005 to 2015, based on Robert B. Parkerβs novel series. While no new projects have been announced, he remains open to reprising the role.
βIt would be an interesting challenge because Jesse is older now,β he noted. βThereβve been quite a few years between shows. That doesnβt mean he isnβt a viable character. Everywhere I go, one of the things I get asked is, βWhen can I see another Jesse Stone?ββ
Saying Goodbye to Blue Bloods
The end of Blue Bloods, which aired its final episode on December 13, 2024, has been difficult for Selleck, particularly because of the strong bonds he formed on set.
βThe hardest part for me is we had the Blue Bloods family and we had the actorsβ family,β he said. βTheyβre all my pals. I miss them. Itβs going to take a lot of getting used to.β
For now, Selleck remains focused on whatβs nextβwhether itβs a return to Westerns, a new Jesse Stone movie, or an unexpected role that brings him back to the screen. One thing is certain: retirement isnβt in the cards just yet.
