NCIS: ORIGINS Renewed for Season 2 — What We Know So Far
Get ready, NCIS fans — NCIS: ORIGINS is officially coming back for Season 2!
CBS has renewed the hit prequel series that explores the early life and career of Leroy Jethro Gibbs, and the next chapter promises even more explosive drama. The announcement comes fresh off the Season 1 finale, which left viewers with major cliffhangers and a lot of questions.
“This season, our new and returning series continue to showcase CBS as the leader in launching and programming the biggest hits with mass appeal,” said CBS Entertainment president Amy Reisenbach. “These returning shows represent a mix of long-standing hits and a new generation of fan favorites.”
While Season 2 details are still under wraps, the NCIS: ORIGINS finale set the stage for big changes. The fate of Special Agent Lala Dominguez hangs in the balance after a dramatic final scene that actress Mariel Molino called “one of the most surreal and scary experiences” of her acting career.
“There’s a big question about Lala that will change everything and everyone and the team,” Molino told TV Insider. “It was physically intense — stunts, night shoots, and a huge emotional payoff.”
Another twist involving fan-favorite Mike Franks adds even more intrigue, hinting at deeper layers to the NCIS universe we’ve only begun to explore.
Despite introducing fresh characters and storylines, ORIGINS has worked hard to stay true to its roots — offering something for both die-hard fans and newcomers alike. “We really made a point to create a show for both our fans and new viewers,” said showrunner Gina Lucita Monreal. “You don’t need to have seen the original series to enjoy ORIGINS, but long-time fans will definitely appreciate the Easter eggs.”
With Season 2 confirmed and new mysteries on the horizon, one thing’s for sure: the wait for fall just got a lot harder.
