Blue Bloods Spin-Off Finally Happening? Fans Can’t Believe It!

β€œBlue Bloods” Isn’t Over Yet β€” Franchise Expansion Officially in the Works

The Reagan family’s story may not be ending with Season 14 after all.

In a surprise announcement during a Paramount Global shareholders meeting on June 4, co-CEO Brian Robbins revealed that four major propertiesβ€”including Blue Bloodsβ€”are set to receive franchise extensions. β€œIn TV, new franchise extensions are coming for Dexter, Billions, and Blue Bloods,” Robbins said, via TVLine. While shows like Dexter and Billions have already revealed their spin-offs and prequels, this is the first official hint that the Blue Bloods universe may be expanding.

The news comes as a twist, especially considering CBS Entertainment President Amy Reisenbach’s firm stance just a month prior. β€œWe love this cast, we love their passion for the show. All shows have to come to an end. It’s important to us to refresh the schedule,” she told Deadline in May, confirming that the current run would conclude with Season 15’s final eight episodes airing this fall.

The cast, including Tom Selleck and Donnie Wahlberg, has been vocal in their desire to continue, even supporting the fan-driven #SaveBlueBloods campaign. Now, it seems their efforts may have paid offβ€”but not in the way fans originally expected.

What Could a Blue Bloods Spin-Off Look Like?

With the original series nearing its finale in November or December, the door is now open for new stories set in the Blue Bloods world. Possible directions for a spin-off could include:

  • A series following Jamie and Eddie Reagan (Will Estes and Vanessa Ray) as they take on new challenges, perhaps outside of New York.
  • Danny Reagan (Donnie Wahlberg) tackling crime in a different cityβ€”maybe even Los Angeles or Chicago.
  • A prequel about a young Frank Reagan, exploring the early days of Tom Selleck’s iconic character as he rose through the NYPD ranks.

So far, CBS has not confirmed any specific projects, but the potential is clear.

A Surprising Turn for the Showrunner

For years, Blue Bloods showrunner Kevin Wade has pushed back against the idea of spin-offs, emphasizing that the series’ strength lies in the Reagan family dynamicβ€”not in procedural branding.

β€œBlue Bloods was never about initials like CSI, NCIS, or FBIβ€”it’s about the family,” Wade told PopCulture.com in 2022. β€œYou can’t replicate the family. That will be when the show endsβ€”if someone wants to take a few characters and try something new, that’s fine. But that’s in some unforeseeable future.”

Well, that future may have just arrived.

A New Era for the Reagans?

While the β€œmothership” series will officially end with Season 15, Robbins’ remarks strongly suggest that the Reagan saga is far from finished. If CBS does proceed with a spin-off, it could mark a dramatic shiftβ€”splitting up the tight-knit Reagan family and reimagining their roles in new environments.

Can the show’s core strengthβ€”the family unitβ€”survive in separate stories? That remains to be seen. But one thing’s for sure: Blue Bloods fans aren’t saying goodbye just yet.
