Boston Blue, the Blue Bloods spinoff, is finally premiering this week—but who’s returning from the original series?
After Blue Bloods concluded its 14-season run in December 2024, leaving fans and cast alike emotional, CBS quickly announced Boston Blue, following the adventures of two familiar faces from the franchise. With the series debuting Friday, October 17, here’s a look at confirmed returns and hinted appearances.
Blue Bloods Stars Returning for Boston Blue
Danny Reagan – Donnie Wahlberg
At the center of the spinoff is Frank Reagan’s eldest son, Danny Reagan (Donnie Wahlberg), who leaves New York behind to start fresh with the Boston Police Department. But how will he navigate the challenges of police work without the support of his iconic law enforcement family?
Wahlberg shared his excitement on Instagram earlier this year:
“So excited to carry on the tradition, to share so many surprises, to answer some unanswered questions, and to welcome all of you — to #BostonBlue! The next chapter in the #BlueBloods legacy begins. I can’t wait. See you CBS fall!”
It was also revealed in July that Danny’s sister, Erin Reagan (Bridget Moynahan), will appear in the premiere episode. While it’s unclear if she’ll have a recurring role, her presence confirms a strong connection to the original Blue Bloods universe.
