NCIS: Origins Showrunner Reveals If Season 2 Is Happening!

It looks like NCIS: Origins might be gearing up for a second season.

So far, the prequel series has been a hit with NCIS fans, offering a fresh perspective on Leroy Jethro Gibbs’ early career. By exploring Gibbs’ beginnings with the Naval Investigative Service (NIS), the show adds context to the character before he became the iconic leader of the NCIS team fans know today.

Amid the competition from other crime dramas, NCIS: Origins has been steadily climbing the charts on Paramount+’s Top 10, further solidifying its popularity with viewers.

While the fate of a second season remains uncertain, showrunner David J. North recently teased its possibility. In an interview with TVLine, he shared that while there has been no official confirmation from CBS or Paramount+, both networks seem invested in the series.

β€œWe’re really proud of what we’re making, and the goal is always to get as many eyes on it as possible,” North explained. β€œI know that we’re doing well on Paramount+; after we air, we’re always in the Top 10 the following day. CBS and Paramount are in it for the long haul, so we just try to keep our heads down and write as good of material as possible. And this cast, they’re fantastic, they really are. I think we have something special here, and I hope everybody comes on board.”

One of the show’s key advantages is its position as a prequel, which gives it a unique edge within the NCIS universe. By providing backstory for beloved characters, NCIS: Origins offers something fresh compared to other fan-favorite spinoffs like NCIS: Los Angeles and NCIS: Hawaii, as well as the original NCIS, which has been a staple since 2003.

With NCIS: Origins continuing to land in the Top 10 on Paramount+, it’s clear that the show’s storylines are resonating with viewers. While a second season hasn’t been officially confirmed, the high ratings and continued popularity suggest that it’s a strong possibility if the momentum holds.
