Mark Harmon, widely known for his portrayal of Leroy Jethro Gibbs in NCIS, shares several surprising similarities with his iconic character, including his passion for a particular hobby. Harmon played the role of Gibbs, the supervising special agent, from 2003 to 2021, spanning 18 seasons on the show. Though Harmon isnβt quite as strict or stoic as Gibbs, itβs been reported that many of the characterβs traits and mannerisms were inspired by Harmon himself.
NCIS, now in its twenty-second season, is the third longest-running scripted TV show. Harmon left the series after season 18, with Gibbs’ character being written out on suspension. However, Harmon continued to reprise his role in the showβs spinoffs, NCIS: New Orleans and NCIS: Origins.
While Gibbs is known for his no-nonsense, disciplined approach to life, many of his quirks and habits were reportedly influenced by Harmonβs own personality and interests, adding a personal touch to the character that fans have loved for nearly two decades.
